Patient Benefits From Wound Care & Hyperbarics
7/6/2017
Woodward, OK – June 28, 2017 - Daniel Harbour suffered an injury at work which resulted in a severe laceration on his lower leg. The wound was stitched up in the nearest emergency room and Harbour followed up with his primary care physician. However in a matter of days the wound was not healing so his doctor referred him to Wound Care & Hyperbarics at AllianceHealth Woodward. During the next 16 weeks he traveled to Wound Care from his home in Laverne for treatment and his wound healed completely. But there’s more to the story.
Harbour didn’t realize it at the time, but his life was about to improve as a result of the injury. Motivated to do everything he could to help his wound heal quickly, he started eating healthier, lost 30 pounds and cut back on cigarette smoking. Now he feels better, has a positive outlook and enough energy to ride bicycles with his grandson and take care of a big garden.
“I heard stories from other people about complications and how long it took their wound to heal and I didn’t want that to happen to me,” said Harbour, “As soon as my wife found out they wanted me on a healthy diet, she was on top of it. She’s a big support to me. When I started eating better and smoking less, I felt like doing more.”
Dena Moreman M.D., Wound Care Specialist, treats patients with the help of nurses and support staff. Patients coming to Wound Care & Hyperbarics are taught how to manage their wound at home. Harbour stated that before Wound Care, he looked at the large selection of dressing supplies at the pharmacy and had no know idea what he needed. “Dr. Moreman told me exactly what to do and they even had supplies delivered to my home,” said Harbour, “They don’t just run people through; they really take care of everybody.”
Harbour wasn’t a candidate for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, but benefited from specialized care including regular debridement, cleansing and dressing changes and the application of bioengineered skin substitutes.
